| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The project "Social integration and quality of life of mentally disabled persons" is seeking answers to the following questions: To what extent are mentally disabled persons integrated with regard to occupation or employment ? Which measures referring to this goal are planed or realised at discharge from a psychiatric hospital, and how is the situation 15 month later, respectively 3 and 6 years later ? In particular will be investigated which factors have an effect on occupation and on quality of life of mentally disabled persons and how closely are occupation and quality of life related. The hypotheses are derived from a theoretical model, that shows on one hand the effects of illness, disability, social stress and social discrimination on the occupational situation and on the other hand the relevance of social resources (social competence, social support and therapeutical interventions). The evaluation of patient data comprehends (1) an empirical quantitative survey of 250 hospitalized patients with additional information given by the psychiatrist, (2) a follow-up interview 15 month after the first interview and (3) a secondary statistical evaluation of the standard documentation records ('basic data') of psychiatric institutions in the canton of Zurich |
