Title / Titel Self-destructive behaviour in female patients with affective disorders: Investigations of psychic structure and affect regulation by means of Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnostics (OPD)
PDF Abstract (PDF, 14 KB)
Original title / Originaltitel Autodestruktives Verhalten von Patientinnen mit affektiven Störungen: Untersuchungen der Persönlichkeitsstruktur und Affektregulation mit der Operationalisierten Psychodynamischen Diagnostik (OPD)
Summary / Zusammenfassung The study focuses on the relationship between depression, self-mutilation, affect regulation and personality structure. Female patients with affective disorders with self-mutilative behaviour (AMB) and without automutilistic behaviour are included. OPD-structured, videotape-recorded interviews are evaluated according the OPD-axes interpersonal relationships, intrapsychic conflicts and psychic structure.

Preliminary results: The AMB-group differed significantly in all categories of the OPD-dimension "Structure" from the controls. Patients with AMB experienced themselves as isolated and disclosed. The negative self-perception in the AMB-group correlated with the negative countertransference of the therapists.
Conclusion: OPD opens up therapeutically relevant dimensions of personality for empirical research.
