| Summary / Zusammenfassung | The present study will investigate differences in electrical brain functions of depressed patients compared with healthy, control subjects matched for age, sex and education. Each subject is recorded twice (25 channel EEG/ERP [event-related potentials]): for the patients, the first recording is done during a phase with clearly detectable clinical symptomatology (assessed through Beck and Hamilton scores), the second recording after clinical improvement (typically, after 3 to 4 weeks). The second recording in the controls will be done at comparable time intervals. The study will analyze the relations between psychopathology (severity of depression), emotionality (reaction to emotional, standardized picture stimuli, and assessed momentary emotional condition) and electrophysiology (mode and dimension of changes in spontaneous EEG and ERP). The EEG/ERP data will be analyzed using LORETA (low resolution brain electromagnetic tomography) and brain field microstate analysis (duration, repertoire and spatial configuration of microstates). | ||||||||
