| Summary / Zusammenfassung | Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder with long-term disability. Negative symptoms and cognitive deficits such as executive functions play a crucial role in long-lasting vocational deficits, and the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of those symptoms have been extensively investigated with neuroimaging studies. Despite these facts, to the best of our knowledge no studies have examined the associations between pathophysiological variables such as cerebral blood flow (CBF) under challenge of executive functions and work performance. The primary objective of this prospective controlled study is to examine the association between CBF during executive challenge as assessed by functional Transcranial Doppler sonography (fTCD) and vocational functioning in chronic schizophrenia and in a control group of patients suffering from depression. We hypothesize that fTCD can be used to predict work performance in schizophrenia on a routine basis. | ||||||
